Matthew Luscombe
Matthew Luscombe
is the author of
The TRAVELLER
: A
World Beyond, 'a
spiritual
fantasy
which explores an
after-life
realm,
a w a k e n i n g
profound messages
to evolve the soul'.
When he began writing this book whilst
a student at KEVICC, he dreamed that,
one day, he would make it into a movie:
concept art would become animation,
and melodies he composed on the
piano would become the musical score.
Matthew's book was published in
November, and is available on the
Britain's Next Bestseller website and
eventually on Kindle too.
When did you leave Kennicott Sixth Form?
I left Kennicott in 2013.
Which subjects did you study at Kennicott?
Environmental Studies, Chemistry, Biology
and P.E at AS Level.
Did you enjoy your time at Kennicott?
I loved every second even though I had
to retake a year. I met new friends in
the year below who I am still keeping in
touch with.
What was the best thing about Sixth Form?
The social sidewas fantastic. I met new friends fromother schools, makingme
a better person. Of course, I still had to keep working hard throughout!
What was the most important life lesson you learnt in Sixth Form?
Work hard from the start. Little and often is key! Keep ticking over throughout
the year so when exams creep up it isn’t a shock to the system.
Is there anything you miss about Kennicott?
I miss the social side of Kennicott. However, it allowedme to go to the University
of my choice, where the social side is even better!
What have you been doing since leaving Kennicott?
I am a 3rd year student studying Veterinary Medicine at the University of
Liverpool. I went straight to University after leaving Kennicott.
If you could do it again, what would you change and why?
I would have liked to have more responsibilities in Sixth Form, such as being a
year rep. It looks great on the CV and makes you a more well-rounded student..
What are your aspirations? What would you like to do in the future?
I want to pass every year in Vet School and then become a large animal
Veterinary Surgeon..
Is there anything else you wish to add?
Thanks to everyone at Kennicott who helped me get to where I am today!
All the best !!!
Thank you, Chris. It was great having you here at Kennicott and we are glad
you are enjoying university life!

Jules Skinner
Former KEVICC student and
talented drummer, Jules Skinner,
has just released his first album:
New Kingdom
A modern, alternative album...
I began teaching Jules when he
was a young child in primary
school and he was a talented
student right from the start. I
thoroughly enjoyed teaching
him – he absorbed everything
I taught him and was always
eager to learnmore. Kathy Banks
KEVICC
Drum & Percussion Tutor
Bristol University have asked us to
celebrate the success of students
from KEVICC who graduated from
there this summer, saying it reflects
both their own hard work and also the
support they've received throughout
their education. The University hopes
they will go on to share the skills and
knowledge gained through their degree
studies in their chosen field.

Ayesha brightened up
the data & exams team
from the moment she
appeared last winter -
unfailingingly positive,
incredibly helpful and
willing to learn a vast
amount very quickly. In the summer,
she juggled overseeing the production
of individual reports for 1259 students
while simultaneously assisting with all
the external exams – wearing out much
shoe leather as she ran from the Sports
Hall to Kennicott to computer rooms
to check all was going smoothly. She
then transferred to Attendance and has
quickly mastered that role in her usual
calm and efficient manner. We will miss
her and wish her all the best for the future.

I just to want say a huge
thank you to wonderful
Karen! She has been
a great support and
help and has always
been there to assist us,
whether we were trying
to sort out a trip, a letter or we just
needed to know she was there for us.
Karen, you are wonderful, sweet, kind,
hardworking, efficient and, to be honest,
just AMAZING! I really want to wish you
all the best in your new post and also
good luck to us, because we are losing
a real asset in the team! Thank you for
your support with the different trips
you’ve helped me with; without you, I
could not have been able to go ahead
with them successfully.
Christina Fernandez de Gorostiza
Karen has moved on to St. Boniface's.
Jan Holland was a
member of staff at
KEVICC for eight years.
She was a friendly and
valued member of staff,
working along side the
pastoral team. We are
grateful for all her hard work and wish her
every success as she embarks on her new
challenges.
Fay Crellen
Chris startedat KEVICC in
2013 as a site supervisor.
It was during this time
that he began to forge
excellent relationships
with staff and students
alike.
He successfully transferred to the
post of LSA upon the realisation that
his skills and understanding of young
people, would benefit those students
who required individual support in the
classroom setting. His confidence grew,
as did the confidence of those supported
by him.
Chris has achieved so much in this role
in the time he has been with the SEN
department, gaining both the trust and
the respect of those he has worked with,
both in the classroom and in the SEN
lunchtime club.
Chris has been a very valued member
of the team who will be missed by us all
and we wish him all the very best for the
future. Rachel Foot and Glenda Penrice

Gemma joined us just
over five years ago like a
breath of fresh air.
She is a beautiful person
inside and out and
will be affectionately
missed by students and
colleagues alike. Gemma is a talented
and inspirational Drama teacher first and
foremost, but also has a real talent for
intervention and counselling.
She has worked in all Key Stages in
English, getting fabulous results when
she took over Jane Richardson’s English
Language and Literature A Level class
several years ago when Jane was on
maternity leave.
Gemma has also written and delivered an
impressive Talk for Writing scheme to our
Year 7 Literacy students this year. She is
a woman of many diverse talents and we
wish her all the best for the future.
Sophie Killock
Debbie has accepted
a position working
as a care worker at
'Robins' in Dartington
where we are sure
she will excel. She
started working here
in 1999 as a Catering
Assistant and has been a very popular
figure, both with staff and students.
Her strength and ability came to the
fore when, in 2011, she and her good
friend Debbie Collins, looked after, and
managed, the Catering operation to
great effect. A very bubbly personality,
with a desire to diet and slim on
numerous occasions – an inspiration
to us all. She has been a very strong
member of the Catering Team and her
friendship, smiley face, humour and
ginger hair will be missed by us all.
Debbie, we wish you the very best in
your new venture! All the Catering Team
