Barcelona opened up new opportunities to learn about
the culture of Spain. We visited Sagrada Familia, which
helped us understand Spain’s history and religion. We
also learned how to make traditional Spanish meals. We
visited two pools: one with water from a lake; the other
in central Barcelona. We visited the magic fountain and
went shopping in a mall that used to be a bull ring. On
the final day, we wasted no time and went to the Picasso
Mueseum. We all enjoyed our trip to Barcelona. It was
great fun!

What an amazing week! The thing I loved the most
about the Barcelona trip was that it allowed you to really
get to know the city! We travelled round the city a lot
so that we got to experience all of its best parts and got
a true taste of the city and its incredible atmosphere. A
massive thank you to Cristina Fernandez who organised
the trip so well. I now know that Barcelona is a city that
I completely love and will definitely be returning to in
future travels!

The Barcelona trip was amazing! I am so lucky to have
been able to experience this with such a nice group of
people. The heat was wonderful and the surrounding
colours were wonderful, especially in the world famous
cathedral named La Sagrada Familia. This incredible
monument was an eye-opener to the exciting history
of Spain. We were taken outside, as well, to see the
beautiful detailed illustrations created by the famous
architect Gaudi, explaining the wonders of the historic
Christian city.
Due to the wonderously boiling heat, we made a few
stops at some relaxing pools. It was so nice to just chill
and cool down after a brilliant but exhausting day of
walking the magnificent streets of Barcelona.
Another fabulous creation by Gaudi that we visited was
called Park Güell. It is a public park filled with the most
beautiful mosaic benches and buildings. This was my
favourite place we visited because the view over the
city was incredible and, looking up at glorious mosaic
towers, while slouching on a colourful patterend china
bench, was so incredible.

KEVICC marked the European Day of
Languages with a quiz for all tutor
groups – and prizes for the highest
number of correct answers!
Forget the Rugby World Cup and the euphoria of Great
Britain getting to the final of the Davis Cup for the first time
in years! The real competition lies in exactly what is year 7’s
favourite foreign word? As pupils ponder, and posters pile,
it is not easy to choose a winner when you have words like
el flamenco, zohili, futbolista, Nattuggla, Les Ramier and
many more!

Some talented year 7 and 8 students have had the challenge of writing poems
in Spanish during their first lesson ever. Students were not convinced by it at
the beginning but they soon realised that, with imagination and a little bit
of guidance, they could actually write a poem in another language without
necessarily having previous knowledge. The topic chosen was
Colours in
Spanish
and here we can find some examples that have made me delighted.
Enjoy!

Silver like the moon
The sky & the sea are blue &white
Autumn is red and yellow
Blue and green is the summer
A storm is grey
Fire is orange
Black like a supersticious cat
Brown like dirty water
Gold like a hidden treasure
Grey like stormy clouds
Orange like a sunset
White like sparkling snow
Red like a bombing heart
Golden like a key
White as paper is
Blue like water
Green as the snake
and the grass
Yellow like cheese
Silver like metal
Verde como un arbol de Navidad
Azul como el agua del mar
Oro como una llave
Blanco como una casa blanca
Rosa como una flor
El azul de tus ojos
El rojo de tu Corazon
Green like a Christmas tree
Blue like the water in the sea
Golden like a key
White like a white house
Pink like a flower
The blue in your eyes
The red in your heart
I
n September, we held a very successful
Open Evening. This was for year 6 students
to come in and and see the fantastic variety
of different subjects KEVICC had to offer.
The teachers of the different subjects
handed out letters to some of the chosen
year 8s and older students, offering them
to participate andhelp out at the specified
subjects Open Evening. Fortunately, Miss
Fernandez, my Spanish Teacher, chose
myself and a couple of other students to
help out at the MFL Cafe and represent
KEVICC in the language department, as I
take a passionate interest in languages.
The night for us was a blast. The
Department's teachers had an amazing
idea to set up one of the classrooms as
a Spanish, French and German Cafe.
The Cafe had the tables decorated with
flag tablecloths, and had menus that we
had designed in our Spanish Challenge
Pathway class. The menus had drinks
and snacks written in Spanish, French
and German, which all the visitors had
the chance to read but had an English
translation for if they got stuck.
Many visitors came to the MFL Cafe
and thoroughly enjoyed what the cafe
had to offer, like games, challenges
and conversations on their language
capabilities. The majority of the students
that visited the MFL Cafe said they would
definitely like to extend their knowledge
of languages, and all seemed interested
in the possibilities the school itself had to
offer. Altogether, a great night was had by
all!

I would like to say a huge thank you to
the lovely MFL students who helped us out
during open evening. It was great fun to
dance to Enrique Iglesias with JamieMedd,
Starlight Moss, Holly Humphreys and Izzy.
Also, not to forget my Sixth Form students
'the evil twins', 'not-my-favourite-Medd'
and poor Joe Clark-Skinner (thanks for
your patience!). Let’s face it, although
nowhere to be seen… Callum McGinnis and
Ed Coles were present so, thanks guys, for
hanging around!
