KEVICC Courier Winter 2021 Lockdown
Page 2 A word from the Principal In these strange and difficult times it is a pleasure to pick up the latest edition of the Courier and see a College striving to do the best for its young people and wider community. Whether it's the huge effort our staff have made with the move over to online learning, or the delivery of over 300 laptops to students on our roll or providing day to day education for our considerable number of key worker children, our staffing body have gone above and beyond. We have added to our brilliant staffing body this term too, with Mr Sam Quick joining us as Head of PE, Miss Elizabeth Helmn in design technology, Mr Dorian Pascoe in physics, our new librarians Ms Keri Bingham and Ms Jess Schnoor and Mr Tim Farrell on reception. A warm KEVICC welcome to them all. This edition really celebrates our determination and commitment to learning as a college. Check out the book reviews by Benny, Josie and Joseph on page 9 - testament to their love of reading. The breadth and quality of lockdown learning through these pages is so heartening to see, whether it's Bess' study of the Merchant of Venice, Jaigh's quite remarkable journey through our Solar System or Jupiter's stunning photography. Our staff have done all they can to provide high quality provision in the face of very challenging circumstances. Many of you have passed on your thanks for the way we have organised our move to online learning, and whilst being far from ideal, I am so thankful to our teachers for the way they have delivered daily lessons via Google Apps. Our governor Gillian Healey's piece on page 21 sums up our parents' and carers' support very nicely. Whilst providing remote learning our staff and students have also donned a range of cinematic poses and costumes for the Performing Arts Film Competition (pages 5 to 7). I'm sure we will all have our own personal favourites! Lastly a plea from me to check out the important editorials from our Sixth Form team on pages 18 and 27. Emma Sim was a wonderful member of the college and it's so heartening to hear of her wonderful recovery. Ben and Molly sum up what makes our students so very special - community centred, empathetic and selfless. You are both an inspiration. Photograph by Ben Cotton @bencottonuk
