KEVICC Courier Winter 2021 Lockdown

Our Governors Lockdown number III hasn't been any kinder than any of the others but as a governor, I've been incredibly impressed and proud of how the staff have managed throughout this prolonged period. Feedback from parents has been very positive. They are noticing an increase in engagement in online learning, connecting more with friends and teachers and the school days being more structured. One parent recently summed it up perfectly, "I know that teachers have put themselves at risk, I know that their job is exhausting. I don't actually have the words to tell you how grateful I am for what you've done, and what you continue to do, not just for our kids, but for all of us. Just - thank you". Since the start of the lockdowns, KEVICC has delivered over 300 laptops to students to make sure no one has been left out of education during this time. An incredible achievement and a testimony to KEVICC's commitment as being as an inclusive college and to improve outcomes for ALL students. What's even more impressive is that due to the government being slow to deliver, the laptops were bought using money provided by the Foundation Governors so a huge thanks to them for reacting quickly to make it happen. I love living in Totnes (15 years and counting) and the strength and kindness of the community are why I call it home. As a parent of a daughter at KEVICC and a governor, I recognise how KEVICC plays such an important part in supporting and nurturing the younger members of our community. I'm really looking forward to assisting the college to achieve their goals to make it THE school of choice for Totnes and to the day when KEVICC can fling open their doors to welcome back all the students once Words by Gillian Healey Gillian joined the governing board in 2019 as a co-opted governor. Her link faculty is PE and she sits on the Operations Committee. Praise from home It was so beneficial to have ongoing feedback and dialogue with parents and carers during lockdown. It was heartening to have such positive comments posted to both our Facebook and Twitter feeds. We have been so impressed by the flexibility and willingness of our staff to pick up and run with new technologies and online platforms. Page 21 #TheSchoolForTotnes
