Courier Summer 2021

Student Editorials Motocross Champion I started Motocross at the age of 7 on a mini 50 CRF Honda. I'm learning at Wheeldon OffRoad Morleigh. My first bike I got was a CRF50. Once that got sold off, I moved up to a CRF70. In one month I moved up to a CRF110 and went to my first proper Motocross practice track, Mitchells. I had fun there, but it was my first-time riding in the wet and at first, I was quite scared. About two weeks after that I moved up to a clutch and gear 80 CRF. That Christmas I got my first race bike a 2013 KTM65 and I was over the moon. One memory was when someone a lot faster than me overtook me, so I tried to overtake them on 'whoops' (loads of small bumps put together), I hit a double too hard missed my brakes and rode straight into a brick wall. Luckily, there were sandbags there so I got a graze and a bad winding. Some time later, my first race was down in Bodmin. I thought the start would be really fun, but as soon as we all started the bikes it really put me off, but I continued into the race. My racing number was 803. My next race was down in Newton Abbot and the track was called Whiteway Barton there are two things I remember there - two very steep hills! One was almost vertical with a pond at the bottom. One of my races was at Fraddon in Cornwall and it was a charity race and the rutts were like 4 feet deep. The best I've ever come in a race so far is 7th down at littlehempston. It was in January and in the morning the whole track was frozen. Then I got my Husqvarna TC85 2019, I have sadly only used it twice because Covid came. The biggest race of my life so far was on a Redbull circuit called Landrake. This was the first race of the year so there were 40 riders. The thing I remember the most is after the first corner someone slid out, I hit his bike, and someone flew over the top of me. The race was red flagged, no one was injured thankfully. Unlike the time at Plymouth city Moto Parc, July 26. I was going around the last corner, someone was coming behind, I was crossing over to get the racing line and we clipped; sending me sideways. I landed on the side of my left leg. I instantly tore my ligament. I can't remember much after that. It took me six weeks to recover. I'm looking forward to the 2021 season so much. Editorial by Jayden Hopkins, Year 8 Page 23 My album of all time S&M2 by Metallica This is my favourite album of all time, by the mighty Metallica. It stands out from the rest of their music for many reasons. They've managed to synchronise heavy metal and orchestral elements really well. Its like nothing else by other heavy metal bands (starting with a 'M') like Megadeath, Manowar or Mastodon. The sound out track for me is Enter Sandman. I love Metallica because they are best at what they do... and Lars Ulrich is the greatest drummer of all time! Review by Coby Anderson, Year 10
