KEVICC Eco Team Page 16 The Eco Team have been busy this year meeting other organisations and like minded people looking to improve our environment, getting their hands dirty tidying up the college environment and organising and running the clothes swap event for the whole college. Look out for further events or activities you can take part in to try and improve the environment for everyone, now and for the future! Above: The Eco Team have spent a considerable amount of time and effort on tending to and improving our communal eco spaces, like the Redworth science bog garden. Above: The Eco Team led on our first ever clothes swap this term. A huge amount of clothing was brought in by our students and up-cycled. We are really excited by the future projects the team will lead on. A Level Biology Year 13 students spent a day this term carrying out a core practical on the distribution of marine organisms on a South Devon rocky shore. Important scientific instruments and practical skills were put to good use, including skillfully using range poles and quadrats to estimate distribution and abundance. The shores around South Devon and Torbay abound with marine life and are home to a fantastic range of highly adapted species. Although we enjoy the sea shore it is in fact an extremely harsh environment, one of the most dynamic on the planet, with conditions continually changing over the course of a 24 hour day. As such, it is a difficult habitat for anything to live without being fully adapted. While there, students and teachers also did a #5minuteBeachClean. We also looked for the presence of invasive species brought to our shores by climate change and the warming of our seas.
