Page 23 Rome & Bay of Naples Humanities Trip Rome by Hebe Pearson Link Let me tell you from the moment I handed in the form to the moment I got off the plane in Rome, I couldn’t contain my immense excitement about going on the 2019 KEVICC Rome trip and it definitely didn’t disappoint! What a trip it was: packed full to the brim with archaeology, natural history, physical (human) history, ancient religion and much, much more! Did you know that the 5th Emperor of Rome, Emperor Nero was only 17 when he took up the throne and yet he had a reputation for being absolutely ruthless? Or that Michelangelo was so annoyed at the Pope when he forced him to paint the entire Sistine Chapel instead of just the ceiling, that Michelangelo painted hell in the corner where the door that the Pope came out of was so it looked like the pope was coming out of hell To get him back?! However, it wasn’t just “blah blah, this is old,” oh no, for example on the last day in Rome, we went to a history of Rome and evolution 5D (3D screen with moving seats and wind or heat etc.) experience including the freezing, dank Roman prisons, the Big Bang and flying with Pterodactyls. My favourite Place we stayed was a hotel in Sorrento with balconies overlooking the bay of Naples and Sorrento with its Gelaterias and orange tree- lined streets. It didn’t feel real, it was so beautiful with the sea, Pompeii and Herculaneum, then of course Vesuvius in the distance. It truly was a once in a lifetime experience!
