Students and staff at King Edward VI Community College’s Kennicott Sixth Form are celebrating a highly deserved and excellent set of Post 16 results this summer. 

Despite the extensive challenges faced by students, they excelled throughout the pandemic, and this was borne out on results day, with staff, students, and parents and carers delighted that the hard work and dedication of students has paid off. 

A large proportion of students have scored top grades across a wide ranges of subjects and qualification types, with Alfie Annear achieving A* in both Mathematics and Further Mathematics, alongside B grades in Biology and Chemistry; Enola De Jong, Thea Chamberlain and Rhianon Pope achieved a prestigious triple Distinction Star in the Art and Design Extended Diploma; Amala Dorling Prag received Distinction Stars in Music BTEC and Performing Arts Extended Diploma as well as grade B in English Literature; Amelie Easton, Alicja Waszkiewicz, Ezme James, Jasmine Leete all achieved grades A*AB; Ciaran Finn-Looby achieved grades AAA in Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry; Ellen Snow A*A*A in Geography, Photography and English Language and Literature; Camille Street A*A*A in Art, French and Film Studies; Rosa Thame and Izzy Walton both achieved grades A*AA; Freya Watts achieved a double Distinction Star in Digital Media and an A in Sociology and Joe Williams achieved A*A*A in English Language and Literature, Film Studies and History. Thelma French achieved A*A*A* in History, English Literature, and French and will be going to Oxford University to read History. Jamie Medd achieved A*A*A in Spanish, Biology, and Chemistry and will be going to Cardiff Medical School. 

“We are an inclusive Sixth Form, and we are incredibly proud of all of our students. So many students have had to struggle against personal adversity and difficult circumstances to achieve these grades” said Alan Salt, College Principal. 

“None of these students has had an easy experience, despite what some might say about lack of exams or supposed grade ‘inflation’. Their teachers and families know that they have coped with incredible adversity and disruption, and to do so and still achieve the highest of academic standards is a testament to their resilience and determination. We are so proud of all of them.”

Our sole purpose is to help young people to realise their true potential, and I am delighted to see this talented cohort fulfilling their ambitions for the future. Our students have worked so hard for these qualifications and have shown themselves to be independent, mature, and stoic beyond their years. It has been a privilege to work with this cohort and I wish them all every success for the future.”

Many Kennicott students are going on to study at the most prestigious universities. Jasmine Leete is heading to Portsmouth to study International Development and Chinese; Ben Beards has a place at the University of Nottingham to study French; America McEwen will be going to Reading to study Italian and Classical Studies; Ciaran Finn-Looby is reading Biomedical Sciences at The University of York; Fran Scanlan is heading to the University of Bristol to study Italian and Spanish.
