Courier Spring 2016 - page 2

Here’s another edition of the Courier and, as
ever, it provides a welcome reminder of how
rich the reality of school life is in comparison
to the narrow view that national headlines,
dominated by debates around assessment
and organisational structures, often gives us.
I’ve been particularly struck from this edition
by the ways in which our students are
collaborating and showing great leadership to,
as well as taking guidance from, one another.
From the very first pages you see so many
group photos of students learning together
and supporting each other, whether in sport, on extra-curricular trips,
or across their experiences in the arts.
No better example can be found herein than the College production of
Les Misérables.
The student and community feedback expresses far
more eloquently than I can how this kind of experience challenges and
supports students of all ages to come together to produce something
that is not just an amazing spectacle, but also a rich opportunity for
learning.
It is a welcome reminder that education and schooling is so much
more than a narrow set of exams or performance measures, and that
we at KEVICC are so fortunate to have students so willing to challenge
themselves and show such incredible perseverance and resilience
across so many areas of College life. What a privilege it is for all of us to
work with them!
