Year 11 Basketball has gone
from strength to strength this
year. beginning training at the end of last year and, since then, have won all four
competitive games this year. The year started by avenging last year's loss at St
Cuthbert Mayne in a game the team were in control of from the tip to the final
buzzer. A second trip to the Bay gave the team, and their coach, slightly more of
a scare though. Having taken control of the game against Torquay Academy, the
side faced a spirited fight back although they held on to retain their unbeaten
status into the season's third game. In perhaps their toughest test of the year, the
side faced EF Academy in their first ever home fixture. Coming up against a much
tougher opponent certainly brought out the best in the side. EF led the game for
each of the first three quarters, but the team never gave up and continued to work
hard, eventually winning game, thanks to an excellent 'never say die' attitude. The
final game of the regular season saw the team again take to the floor at home, this
time against Tower House School. This game truly epitomised how far the team
have come as a unit, winning the game with a comfortable sixteen point margin,
largely down to the excellent contribution from the bench. Having completed the
regular season unbeaten, only one more challenge awaits - the Sport Relief game
against the staff...

The year 7 boys have had a very busy start to their footballing careers
here at KEVICC. They have taken part in three central venue leagues
and have had a 9 a-side fixture against Churston which they narrowly
lost 4-3, after coming back from being 2-1 down to lead 3-2 but,
unfortunately, lost the game right at the very death.
The squad has competed valiantly at all central venues picking up
wins against Dartmouth, Brixham and Westlands with stand-out
performances from a range of players. Malakai Deimel picked up Man
of the Tournament, due to scoring the winner in his first ever game of
football!
The year 7 boys regularly have 20 players at training and are a huge
credit to the College every time they put on their KEVICC kit! Dan Gillard
Students from years 7 and 9 took part in a Dodgeball tournament at
Teignmouth Community School.
Both year groups showed fantastic skills and determination
throughout all of their games, which resulted in them finishing in
second place in their respective year groups.
The year 7s won their first game against Teign School; lost their
second to eventual winners Teignmouth Community School and
won their final game against Coombeshead Academy, with a 3-0
victory.
The year 9s won their first two games 2-1, against Teign School and
Teignmouth Community School, before losing their final match 2-1
to South Dartmoor Community College.

Years 7 and 9 Dodgeball
A large number of students from years 7 to 11 have been involved
in Central Venue Football tournaments this half term. The 6-a-side
tournaments at Coombeshead Academy have produced excellent and
entertaininggames. Theyear 7 teamwere fantastic, progressing through
the group stages to the Cup competition, before losing in the semi-
final to a strong Newton Abbot College team. The year 8 team suffered
the same fate, again losing in the semi-final. Excellent performances
from the likes of Ayrton Sidebottom – who scored a fantastic goal at
Paignton – have left the team being very positive about the future. The
year 9 team built on their success, playing some exceptional football
without conceding a single goal. This was topped off with an exciting
and tense penalty shoot-out in the final against Newton Abbot College, with Sam Eaton making two spectacular saves, and
Adam Backhouse slotting home the winning penalty. The Year 9 team have also played against some tough sides at the TBGS
CVL – they beat Churston comfortably and only lost to TBGS during the whole evening. A special mention has to go to Huw
Paige for scoring a vital goal against Brixham.
