The Old Totnesians
have recently pur-
chased a gazebo
for the Special
Educational Needs
Department, with
further
support
being prepared for SEN in the form of
our annual prizes for achievement. A
£20 gift voucher will be awarded to a
boy and a girl from each of the first
five year groups.
Last year, we gave support to Ben
Hartridge to enable him to carry out
voluntary work abroad in his gap
year. Ben is back in the UK now and
has sent us a very detailed report,
with pictures, which will feature in
our newsletter in September. Look
out for it in your libraries at the end
of the year and look at our March
Newsletter now – there is usually
something of interest. In the Spring
members, with friends and family,
met for a reunion in Totnes taking
the bus to Paignton, the train to King-
swear and the ferry to Dartmouth.
Lunch at The Royal Castle Hotel was
followed by taking the boat up the
river to Totnes. The weather was ac-
ceptable for most of the day but in
the last twenty minutes on the river
the heavens opened! Heavy precipi-
tation is an understatement and a lot
of us made a dash for the cafe to wait
for the rain to abate – extra tea and
scones was an indulgence but then,
who was watching their figures?! One
member had travelled from America
to be there and a family member was
in attendance from New Zealand.
There will be an informal reunion
at The Founders Arms, Bankside,
London at 12.30 on Wednesday 10
September and then our reunion and
AGM at The Royal Seven Stars, Totnes
on Saturday 18 October. If you went
to KEVICC, or one of the schools which
pre-dated it, do come and see us.
With the 100th Anniversary of the
start of the First World War it may be
worth remembering that 36members
of the Boys Grammar School lost their
lives. They used to be remembered
with their names on a memorial
board at The Mansion. Does anyone
know where it is now? Sadly, we have
no record of how many men from the
Secondary School lost their lives.

Your Parents' Association has had
another busy year, making and
spending money!
It began in November with the
famous KEVICC community firework
event, this time featuring live music
from students and with an emphasis
on fresh, locally-sourced produce for
the BBQ. The event grossed almost
£5,000. Also in the Autumn term,
the PA invited local, upcoming
band
Matthew and Me
to headline a
evening of music, with support from
many talented KEVICC students.
During the Spring termwe held a quiz
night in the Ariel Gallery and a good
time was had by all!
We had fun selling ice creams, ush-
erette-style, at all four nights of the
amazing production of
Grease
and
at the Summer Concert in June. All
these events have contributed to
a healthy bank balance for the PA,
which has meant we have been able
to respond to numerous requests for
funding from various departments
within the college:
Drama
received
£1,994
for theatre
lighting, speakers and amplifier.
Music
received
£1,230
for a xylophone.
£800
was given to buy awards for the
Achievement Evening
.
£700
went to Mr Edwards' fantastic
garden project
.
£818
was donated to
Ten Tors
train-
ing and resources.
And last, but by no mean least, the
Design and Technology
department
received
£2,200
towards a 'Sublima-
tionmachine' (aka a 3D printer) which
has the potential to be widely used
by individual students; the young
co-operatives and community groups
for further fundraising opportunities
The PA committee actively welcomes
any member of staff or departments
with interesting or innovative projects
needing support to contact them
via the links on the College website.
We will be starting to consider bids
for funding towards the end of the
summer term. Looking ahead, the
committee will be seeking to recruit
new members to help us build on the
successes of this year and to ensure
a PA presence at as many College
events across the school calendar as
possible.
We also look forward to building on
our
Parent Voice
meetings where
parents have the opportunity to
discuss issues and concerns, and to
ask questions. In the new academic
year, your PA will look forward to wel-
coming and working in partnership
with new Principal, Alan Salt.
Meanwhile, any parent is welcome
to get in touch with any committee
member at any time via the College
website, or alternatively find us on
Facebook.
