French and Spanish GCSE Reading and Listening exams in May
The MFL department were expecting good attendance at
the breakfast revision sessions, as we know what a fantastic
and motivated group of students we have in year 11 MFL.
However, even we were amazed when nearly all the students
attended!
Special mentionmust go toMichael Flanagan, whomanaged
to arrive to the French session before Mrs Burman even got
there, and the shock of the week came when Thomas Brierly
was the first to appear at the Spanish session at 7:30am, just
beating Ed Coles and Callum McGinnis.
I would like to take this chance to say 'Adios y Buena suerte'
to a really amazing cohort of students. It's been a pleasure
to teach my group and see them grow from year 9, not only
a lot taller, but a lot wiser, and they have become a group of
really mature and conscientious students. I know many of
the MFL teachers will also really miss their groups.
We look forward to teaching those of you who are continuing
to A Level, and would welcome any of you back to weekly
conversation classes if you miss getting the chance to speak
some Spanish or French next year.

In our year 7 French literature lesson we read this extract from The
Gruffalo in French and, by the end of the lesson, we could understand
it!

The MFL teachers would like to say a big thank you to all the students
who have worked very hard in the language lessons during these past
few terms. This year we have found some really hard working students
and very talented linguists in school and we are very pleased to see that
they are always up to give their best. During the last week before half
term, some of our real assets were invited to join us in 2 movie nights
in the Ariel Theatre. We watched a Spanish movie called “Mortadelo y
Filemon” and a French movie called “La famille Bélier”. It was actually
very nice to have a cinema session in a foreign language accompanied
with lots of food and drinks… just like in the cinema, but better…

In May we watched a Spanish film and it was crazy! The
film was about people trying to get a weird machine,
and it was really good. It was like watching a movie at
the cinema and we were given snacks like cupcakes and
sweets. I really enjoyed it!!!
Evie Bovey year 7
I really enjoyed the movie even though it was a bit weird. I
would definitely go again!!
Sophia Robinson year 8
The film was very funny! I had a great time and it was
really good to watch a film with my friends.
Jasmine Scott-Taylor year 8
The film I watched had a great comedy. It was fun and
weird at the same time. I engaged watching it but they
spoke a bit too fast!
Shanty-Re Alem’neh year 8
The Spanish movie night was really good. We got snacks
and drinks but we would have liked more students to turn
up. It was really good fun!
Kurt Ritter year 8
It was a really nice evening. The film “La famille Bélier” was
really funny and sad at the same time; most importantly
the food was really nice!
