This year sees the Totnes Art and Design Foundation Course
reaching a milestone in its rich history. The Summer Show in
June celebrated ten years of students passing through this
highly successful one year pre-degree course and, with it,
their many individual stories of success. This year we have
seen our students confidently gain entry to a wide range of
Britain’s top courses, amongst them: Falmouth, Edinburgh,
Chelsea, Westminster, Birmingham, Farnham, Bristol UWE
and London College of Fashion, to embark on their degrees.
We continue to build on our unique partnership with
Falmouth College and, this year, a total of twelve students
are progressing to a variety of courses there, ranging from
Illustration to Photography.
Last year one of our students was accepted to study Fine Art
at Edinburgh – an amazing achievement in itself, as this is a
notoriously difficult college in which to gain entry. However,
this year we celebrate an incredible SIX students gaining
entry for Edinburgh courses, ranging from Interior Design
to Fine Art Printmaking. This confirms our high bench-mark
standards and the basic roots of Art and Design that we
continue to firmly embed on the course are working. Along
with regular tutor contact, and the teaching of a range of
strong and quite traditional skills (drawing in particular), our
students leave us more rounded, confident people to enter the
competitive world of Art and Design.
