Year 8 visit The
Eden Project
As part of year 8's Geography
unit
Excellent Ecosystems
, over
100 students visited the Eden
Project recently. Students had the
opportunity to explore the world's
largest rainforest in captivity in order
to investigate plant adaptations and
the tropical rainforest biome.
They discovered many aspects of
the tropical rainforest including the
treetops as they visited the Canopy
Walkway and took in the spectacular
views across the biome. Students
observed a range of native rainforest
plants such as the Cola Tree; a West
African rainforest tree that once
flavoured the fizzy drink Coca-Cola,
and the Sensitive Plant which moves
when touched. The Year 8s have used
the information they collected in
lessons to create their own diagrams
and to design their own unique
rainforest animals.
Millie Harris
Skye Johnson:
The Eden Project was a good
experience. It highlighted the individual
importance of different biomes in a fun way.
Rose Read:
I really enjoyed our trip to the Eden
Project; it was a really fun experience and it
was interesting to see what the rainforest is like
without going all the way to a real one!
Jody Hastie:
When I went to the
Eden Project we did many different
activities, but the thing that I really
enjoyed was seeing all the plants and
animals which live in the tropical
rainforest biome. I also learned a lot of
things I never knew.
Oscar
Harding:
I
liked
the
Mediterranean Biome because you
really got the Mediterranean vibe!
