Staff leaver ~ Nikheel Jina
The winter period has been a quiet
period for the Society with just
normal administrative contact
with members who have moved
house or changed their email
address. Sadly, we have lost a few
more members who have died
and joined our Alumni Branch
elsewhere.
We are pleased to welcome two
new members, Gordon Ellis who
was at the School / College from
1964 - 1967 and now lives at East
Allington, and Michael Poll who
was at the Boys Grammar School
from 1953 - 1958. Michael is our
first member who lives in South
Africa and so this is another arm
to our international membership.
All of our international members
are always prepared to assist with
information on their countries.
InNovember 2014, our President and three othermembers
were pleased be the guests of the new Principal, Alan Salt.
Members were pleased to be able to share information
with him about the Old Totnesian Society and how we
are able to help if asked. President Niall Whitehouse
presented Alan with a Society tie which means that, when
he wears it, he is an Honorary Member and has all the
benefits of that position – like buying the first round!
Preparations are now being made for the next newsletter
and the Spring Reunion, which will be at lunchtime on
Saturday 25th April 2015 at the TQ9 Restaurant, Royal
Seven Stars Hotel, Totnes. Our London 'Get Together'
will be at The Founders
Arms, Bankside, London on
Wednesday 9th September
2015, and the October Reunion
and Annual General Meeting
will be at The Royal Seven Stars
Hotel, Totnes on Saturday 24th
October 2015.
If you have parents or relatives
who attended one of the former
schools, or the current College,
please tell them about these
dates and events. They will be
most welcome to come along
and meet us even if they are not current members.

It is normally in the autumn term that Trustees consider applications
for support from students seeking university places for the following
Autumn.
This year, applications were slow to come in but, following several
further prompts by tutors at Kennicott, a number of students have now
submitted applications for the Trustees to consider.
Interviews are set to take place in the last week of this Spring term and
we hope to be in a position to let successful students know immediately
after the Easter holidays. Look out for news from our current grant
recipients in the summer edition of the Courier.
Okehampton Residential
with year 7s
Nikheel Jina arrived at KEVICC
nearly six years ago… and life
has not been the same for the
Science Team since his arrival!
His unique vocabulary and
sense of humour have kept us
laughing and crying through
it all. Undoubtedly the most
handsome member of the
science team, Nikheel has been
a hit with students and staff
alike. Year 7 recently voted him
one of their favourite teachers
and year 11 will remember him
for his 'Charity Shop Couture' and his banter. Nikheel has
developed and maintained a sustainable horticulture
space in the Kennicott garden – a shining example of
the ‘low maintenance approach’. He has run several
very successful Fair Trade and Environment Days with
students from KEVICC and feeder Primary Schools. He
has run Activities Week surf trips and residentials, all with
aplomb. Sadly, it is time to say goodbye to Nikheel as
he is moving just up the road to the South & West Devon
Personalised Learning Service at Shinners Bridge – a new
role, and one that will suit his talents and skills. We are
losing one of our heroes of science – ADIOS MR JINA –
may the force be with you.
WITH LOVE FROM ALL THE SCIENCE TEAM !!
