PE
In December ten talented KEVICC PE students took part
in a workshop day run at the University of St Mark and
St John in Plymouth. The year 7 and 8 students were
challenged with activities designed to develop their
cognitive, creative, social and personal skills.
They mixed with a range of other talented students from
local secondary schools and the university undergraduate
students who were running the workshops. Students were
shown the university’s hall of fame which inspires lots of
budding PE stars to work hard and strive for success; one
of the undergraduate students who they were working
with had competed in the Beijing Olympics. All the
students really enjoyed visiting the university which has
superb sports facilities and were able to gain an insight
into university life and the potential sports courses they
could progress to in the future. We hope to make this an
annual trip for our students.

After a troublesome season last year, this year began with
a cup victory over Dartmouth Academy. Regulars have
been putting in consistent and composed performances
throughout the season. Captain Ben,
Goal A Game,
Wakeham has been a regular on the score sheet, scoring
spectacular goals that only Ronaldo could dream of!
Attackers opened their accounts this season following
a comfortable 7-3 cup win over a rattled Paignton
side, going past defenders like they aren’t even there!
Defenders have been making defending look easy and
have cut out dangerous plays on numerous occasions.
Many players have been impressive this season, showing
a massive improvement over last season! Looking onto
a long season ahead, I am sure the coming months will
be exciting as we look to continue this good run of form!
Well… as long as they come to training! COME ON KEVICC!

The first competitive outing for the Year 10 Basketball
team saw them face St. Cuthbert Mayne in a tough away
fixture. After an intensive period training behind closed
doors, the team were optimistic and ready to put their
hard work to good use. The match had all the makings of
a classic backyard derby, with the coaching team keen
to face-off against former member of staff Mr Iskander,
head coach for the opposition.
Half-time saw the KEVICC team down by a slender eight
points but, for a first outing, the team showed huge
potential and have no doubt nursed some nightmares
over those missed shots – which they’ll hopefully put right
by practising. A brave final effort for a double three-point
play to force overtime fell short and the team ended up
losing out by a six point margin. But the next team that
comes up against this exceptional team of young men
will certainly be made to feel it.

Totnes Archers
Totnes Archers, based at
KEVICC, were absolutely
delighted to have two
of their archers set new
County records in February.
Lily Howe finished as Top
scoring under-12 Junior and KEVICC
student Heidi Wakeley was awarded a
medal after finishing as Top Scoring Under-
18 Junior Barebow.

Sophie Roe (year 8)
and Ella Rockett-
Pooley (year 7) joined
Jo Anders, Lucy McMurray, Eve Rowse, Alicia Haymen and
Lauren McGinnis (year 7) in the cold and wind at TGGS to
play against the same opposition as the week before.
The results were as expected (it is very tough playing
without a Goal Keeper) - a draw against Churston and two
losses to Torquay Girls and Stover, but the quality of play
was very encouraging. Lauren McGinnis scored a fantastic
goal against Churston, following some great team play,
and Jo Anders scored a superb goal against Torquay Girls
after a solo run down the wing, beating the Keeper from a
difficult angle. They will have played their end of season
tournament in March.

Year 10 Sports Leaders
Our Junior Sports Leaders had special training from South
Dartmoor Schools' Sports Partnership Manager Katherine
Killburn to help them prepare for working with hundreds
of visiting primary school children at our KS1 Multi-skills
Festival. They are always a real credit to the College:
Very impressed with the Sports Leaders.
The KEVICC Leaders are a credit not only to themselves
but also to your school. Our children hope that when you
have future events they will see them again.
The sports leaders were just fantastic!
