Our Performing Arts Company, KPAC, were delighted to be
invited to perform at the Totnes Show this Summer. The setting
was perfect, with a prime spot at the festival overlooking the
whole of Totnes down the valley, which we found inspiring –
the hills certainly came to life with the help of our incredible
students’ dulcet tones!
We performed the old favourites from
Matilda,
plus some new
repertoire that showed off the students' talent for acapella
singing. We were thrilled to have some of our Year 13 leavers
perform a set of their own in preparation for future gigs they've
been booked for.
And, as always, we were incredibly blown away by the
incredible commitment and hard work that the students
showed, especially at the start of the holidays.

Our Year 10 dancers embraced the exciting nature of site specific performance at the Totnes Show. On arrival we were
all daunted by the open space of the main event arena where we were to present the dance. At the time, horses were
parading around the grass area and there was a sloping hill. The students immediate felt nervous, as well as excited,
at how they could effectively present their dance and how it would be received from audience members.
Whilst warming-up and preparing, they particularly impressed me with how they rehearsed their dances to
encompass as much space as possible, and then considered how they could work safely with the hazards presented
and with an audience in the round.
A special performance was a
treat for students who flocked
to the theatre to watch. Starring
Mr Salt and his super team
of educational professionals
(plus a silver model of the
Charles Babbage head) it helped raise even more money
for the College's total for the charity. This hilarious piece
of drama was put together by AS drama students in just
half a day and, with great impersonations and costume,
they managed to put together a very entertaining piece for
everyone’s enjoyment!

The audience are invited to join in at the Show
When it came to our performance, the students presented themselves professionally and really embraced the
whole experience. There was an eclectic range of dance styles; one group ensemble in the contemporary dance
style; a funky duet that took us back in time and finally a street dance group ensemble, culminating in a free style
performance that allowed children to enter the arena and dance with the vibrant coloured scarves. The weather was
kind to us and the children from the audience who took part seemed to have great fun. I was incredibly proud at how
well the students performed and showcased the talent we have at KEVICC.
