At the recent launch of the
Exeter Fab Lab Centre, David
Irish had extended discussions
with the Duchess of Cornwall
on the student work exhibited;
learning, inspiration and the
future potential impact of
such technologies. The work
of a number of Year 8 students
who last Year won the Science
Technology and Mathematics
Best Engineering Award for all
age groups at the South West
Big Bang Event was also used to
David Irish, Head of Design and Technology, in
conversation with HRH Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall
Year 11 Design student Megan Isaaks has had another
local community commission for a logo – from the
Town Council for the Totnes Neighbourhood Plan.
At the Totnes Show in the summer, Megan was
presented with a cheque in recognition of the new
Show logo she designed, and David Irish recieved
a cheque for KEVICC in recognition of the work his
department did in encouraging Design students to
submit designs for the logo.
KEVICC were once again awarded the Perring Funeral
Services trophy for the Best Educational Stand at the
Show and Megan was presented with the award on
behalf of the College.

This year Amy Withers, Head of Sixth Form at
Kennicott, presented the award to Margaret
Portus of Bradley Barton Primary School
in Newton Abbot, for her leadership of the
Outdoor Classroom for the past nine years.

KEVICC is to act as a satellite
centre for the programme
because it was recognised for its
excellence in design innovation,
manufacturing
capabilities
and its high tech electronic
prototyping
provision.
The
Fab Lab Totnes Satellite will
be launched later in the Year
following a public consultation
thatwasheldwiththecommunity
in October. Fab Labs allow all
community members across
the world in over 260 centres to
access high-tech cutting-edge
support and training.
Art and Drama trip to New York
The Design and Technology Department
are delighted to announce that they have
been accepted as a Progression Partner with
Falmouth University. The A-level Product
Design course has been recognised as a
Level 3 course well-suited to preparing
students for Level 4 study on the Sustainable
Product Design course at the University; the
only Devon College with this partnership. All
students gaining a B or above in their A-level
will be guaranteed an interview by Falmouth,
and a close association with the university
through Years 12 and 13 will enhance their
study. There will be tours of the university; joint
workshops; partnership projects and advice on
their folios. A group of Year 13 students will be
travelling independently to Falmouth to spend
time on the campus in the Spring Term.
