The Property Challenge was an
enterprise activitiy offered within the
Entrepreneurship Pilot that all of Year
9 took part in May of this Year.
The students were told that the
winning team, would present their
Property Development
’ to Devon and
Cornwall Business Council members
and guest business personnel from the
South West.
The Finals were held in the Barn
Theatre on the Dartington Estate
in the Autumn and our team called
Homes 4 U
came first! The team of
Katie Smaldon, Amelia Edwards, Ruby
Richard-Burns, Victoria Billis, Jasmine
Huxter and Shania MaClening had
made a 3D model of their property
development which the judges said
was the most impressive presentation
they had seen.
The Property Challenge winners!
The students handled the filming and the professionalism
of the proceedings really well and were an absolute credit
to KEVICC.

Today has been very useful and
has taught us about enterprise. We have met interesting
people and one lady said we got her vote because we
were the only team to include a Biomass boiler! It has
given us a taste of what being in business is like. We are
so pleased to have been given this opportunity and are
really very grateful to Cavanna Homes who have offered
each of us a site visit and a week of work experience –
thank you to everyone involved.
The accolades our Year 10 students received this Year have been the
best yet. Employers sent in evaluation forms praising our students
on their initiative and willingness to learn. Quite a few of the
students have been offered summer jobs and some have been offered apprenticeships after Year 11 – all good evidence
that KEVICC students are preparing themselves for the world of work and gaining the all-important work skills en
route. We had some very adventurous students last summer, finding work experience placements in Ireland, Scotland,
London, Brighton and Newbury, working in various Government Departments; specialist retail outlets and Media and
Leisure Industries. The majority of our students found placements in our local area with Veterinary Practices; Film
Studios; in Healthcare; Childcare; Schools; Journalism; Construction; Architecture and Retail – to name but a few.
Comment from a local doctors' surgery:
this student was an excellent work experience student. He was diligent
throughout the week and demonstrated more than the right attitude for work. We would have no hesitation in
recommending him.
A University said:
She was very enthusiastic and engaged with the work. She picked things up
very quickly and asked great questions about what she was doing.
