One of the biggest achievements of the day was Alex Hartridge breaking the school Year 10 Boys Triple Jump record,
which has stood for twenty-two Years, by a further 18 centimetres.
We are most grateful to many people for making KEVICC Sports Day 2014 a success; Keith Jones our grounds keeper
for ensuring that the fields were ready for us to use; the athletes for performing with such confidence and prowess;
the spectators for making the atmosphere fantastic; Fay Crellan for her Wacky Races addition; Totnes Archers for
providing our Archery competition; Elliot Darby in Year 13 for the entertainment system; Neil Edwards for coordinating
the charity stalls; students Charlie Pooley and Yoran Sheppard for their charitable nature; the staff of KEVICC for their
continued support of this event in various ways; the KEVICC catering department for their support; Kevin Creber for the
PA system and finally the wonderful PE department for their hard work and effort.
We had such wonderful feedback from staff and students about Sports Day and we are so pleased that everyone enjoyed
this brilliant day again in 2014.

The Anchor Cup, which is
our Endeavour cup, given in
loving memory of ex-student
Tom Perrin, is awarded to
students who are role models
for always trying hard to achieve their potential, and who
inspire others by overcoming barriers and challenges to
persevere. This Year, this lovely award went to Josie Baker
in Year 10 who thoroughly deserves this recognition.
The day started for us at
7am setting up the field
ready for the big event. The
areas were staked and taped;
the equipment was out; the
gazebos were up, the water was chilled and the music
system was in place courtesy of Year 13 student Elliot
Darby. Alex Harris had prepared seven pages of sport-
related jokes for his role as announcer; Jason Beynon
had finally located the starter’s pistol; Fay Crellan had
prepared eggs for the egg and spoon race and the Archers
were ready to shoot by 9.30am.
Other wonderful students had baked until 4am (!) to
sell cakes for charity on the day, and many others had
prepared elderflower cordial to sell with Neil Edwards.
This season sees new look Kennicott football with Chris Chisholm standing down at the end of last season. After the
first few training sessions, the Sixth Form squad was looking strong, with large numbers of students wanting to get
involved. The first pre-season game saw the Sixth Form get revenge for last Year’s loss in the Dave Tellam shield.
The staff took an early lead but were pegged back very quickly. A calamitous own goal from Alan Hartigan allowed
the students to draw level. The students played some lovely football, with some creative passing and movement.
It was turning into a very competitive game that neither side were willing to lose. A few moments of pace exposed
the defence of the staff and allowed the students to rush in to a quick 4-1 lead. The staff pulled a goal back through
a dubious penalty decision; however, the penalty was dispatched with no remorse. The students were very worthy
victors and used their youthful exuberance to continue with pacey attacks until the final whistle.
