ell what a busy weekend I've had catching up on the two latest
Sci-Fi flicks. I enjoyed both of them massively, but Ihave to say my
favourite was Stardust. The script was both captivating and poetic;
one of my favourite lines in the film was "How much is this flower?" "All the
colour from your hair or all your memories before the age of three?" I liked
this line as it's such an interesting concept that a witch could take currencies
as strange as hair colour or memories. This is a fast moving film that is based
in the 1800s and follows the life of clumsy teenager Tristan Thorn. The film
starts when Tristan Thorn crosses the wall in the border of his town to the
magic kingdom of Stormhold to bring a fallen star to a girl he has fallen in
love with called Victoria. Victoria is a spoiled girl who does not love Tristan.
However, she has promised to marry him if he accomplishes his promise. The
tale follows his adventures whilst seeking the star where he meets Pirates,
Witches, his long lost mother and his one true love. This is must-watch movie,
for a cosy night in, that is highly recommended for all ages.
The second film I watched was The Astronaut Farmer. The script in this
film wasn’t as memorable. However, it was still a great watch. One of my
favourite lines in this movie was “If we don’t have our dreams then we
have nothing” I like this line as it very motivational and inspiring! This
film wasn’t as dynamic as Stardust however, had a very intriguing plot
which was based around the lead character Charles Farmer.
Charles Farmer left the Air Force as a young man to save the family
ranch when his dad died. Like most American ranchers, he owes his
bank though, unlike most, he's an astrophysicist with a rocket in his
barn - one he’s built and wants to take into space. It’s his dream. The
FBI puts him under surveillance when he tries to buy rocket fuel; the
FAA stalls him when he files a flight plan - it’s post-9/11, after all. His
wife is furious when she finds out their bank is initiating foreclosure.
Charlie fears failure and decides, suddenly, to launch his rocket,
leaving his wife only a note to tell her of his whereabouts.
The film then follows his ups and down in space!
